R. H. Rollings Middle School of the Arts is a public school for grades 6 through 8 in Dorchester District Two and serves a population of approximately 600 students. RMSA was established in June of 1997 as part of a district initiative to make the arts an integral part of our children's education. An outstanding, dedicated staff works diligently every day to ensure that our mission statement is a reality.
R. H. Rollings School of the Arts offers students an opportunity to study one of six core art areas in depth. A student may strive to become a master in dance, orchestral string instruments, piano, theater, visual arts or vocal music. While only one core art area is offered to each student, exposure to other arts is provided each year in exploratory courses.
Any child residing in Dorchester District Two attendance zones is eligible for screening. Applications are available at the start of each school year at your child's home school.
About Our Band
Our band program consists of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who have demonstrated the desire to learn an instrument.
Our Honor Band annually participates in the South Carolina Concert Festival, which is held in the Spring. Students enjoy participating in the Pep Band during basketball season and going on a field trip to Carowinds at the end of the spring semester.
Students in the 6th and 7th grades meet every other day during school hours for rehearsals lasting approximately 65 minutes, while 8th grade students meet every day during school hours. Occasionally, during concert and contest season, students will be required to attend after-school rehearsals.
